FD is an online magazine registered at the Court of Reggio Emilia under number 2774 of 6 December 2013.
FD was founded in 2011 by Enrico Maria Davoli and Marco Lazzarato. It is directed by Enrico Maria Davoli. Editorial staff: Lorenza Bronzoni, Enrico Maria Davoli, Bruno Manfredini. Webmaster: Guido Davoli.
FD deals with the criticism, theory and practice of decoration and ornament, considered in the light of their historical tradition, present and future prospects, and relationships with other arts.
FD publishes articles and essays focusing on artistic and cultural issues of particular relevance, particularly from the perspective of architectural and urban decorum and, more generally, the decorum of artefacts.
FD also publishes theoretical, didactic and popular texts, reviews of books, exhibitions and events of all kinds, as well as columns devoted to the historical repertoire of decoration, analysis, criticism and satire of customs, behaviours and cultural clichés.
FD regularly publishes texts or parts of texts (with a reference to the source so that the reader can find the full version) by authors, past and present, who are able to speak to those who cultivate the themes and problems that the magazine deals with.
FD does not impose prescriptive and unambiguous editorial criteria. Depending on the nature of the subject and the type of interpretation (informative, monographic, theoretical-philosophical) to which a text best lends itself, the editors and the author of the text will from time to time agree on the best version that can be published. Footnotes and bibliographies are welcome and sometimes indispensable, but they should not become an end in themselves, to the point of undermining or even overwhelming the main text, as is often the case in academic literature. Good use of the written language and intellectual honesty towards the reader are much more important requirements.
